When Should You Use 3mm Artificial Grass Pins?
3mm U-pins are best suited for:

If your ground is firm but not heavily compacted, 3mm pins provide secure anchoring without excessive force required during installation.

How Many 3mm Pins Do I Need?
As a general installation guide:
- Perimeter: 1 pin every 200mm
- Internal area: 1 pin per m²
- Joints: 1 pin every 200mm along seams
For a typical 30–40m² lawn, one pack is usually sufficient. Larger areas may require multiple packs.
3mm vs 3.6mm vs 4mm – Which Should I Choose?
- 3mm → Softer ground & lighter installs
- 3.6mm → Most popular for standard domestic sub-base
- 4mm → Hard ground & maximum holding strength
If your sub-base is compacted MOT Type 1, 3.6mm may be more suitable.
Will These Rust?
No. These pins are galvanised to resist corrosion and are designed for long-term use in outdoor environments.
Installation Tips
- Lay the artificial grass in position and secure one end first.
- Tension and stretch the artificial grass using a carpet kicker for a tight, professional finish.
- Work around the perimeter at 200mm intervals. Take care not to trap grass fibres when driving the pins into the ground.
- Add internal stabilising pins.
- Brush fibres upright to conceal pin heads.
When installed correctly, pins remain discreet and virtually invisible.
